Gambia Senior Secondary School wins national robotics championship

Gambia Senior Secondary School has recently defeated ten other senior secondary schools including Marina, SBEC, WAIS, Methodist Academy and Nusrat to win the National Robotics Competition 2018.

The students, who represented the school at the competition, cheered and leaped into the air after learning they are the champions and would represent The Gambia at the Pan African Robotics Competition (PARC) in Rwanda next month.

“We are proud of you,” one of their teachers, Mr Kebba Saidykhan wrote on Facebook.

The National Robotics Competition, an initiative that is designed to bring together different senior secondary schools to compete in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), was officially launched last month.

The initiative was lauded by many including the minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Badara Joof.

This year’s competition was co-sponsored by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and InSIST Global Ltd. with support from the Gambia Government.
